The coffee
is derived from the seed of an evergreen
plant of the family Rubiacee. This plant
grows in Asia, America and Africa and has
two main species:
- The Coffea
arabica: cover 75% of world production and
the caffeine content in seeds is lower
than that of other species. This species
can be found in: Asia, Africa, Brazil,
Colombia, Ecuador, Peru.
- The Coffea
robusta: characterized by small round
seeds, but rich in caffeine. It grows
mainly in Brazil, Indonesia,
Africa.
As usually happens
in history, there are many legends about
this drink. According to studies, it is
believed that the first people who
cultivated this plant were the Ethiopians.
